Second announcement

Edited: 2010/09/01

Dear Colleagues,

this is the second announcement for the research school on "Science with XUV- and X-ray Free Electron Lasers", which will be held on October 18 - 21, 2010, in the Club Belambra at the Presqu'Ile de Giens, Hyères, located in the South of France close to Toulon.

The motivation for this workshop is to provide general information about X-ray Science enabled by such sources, detailed about sources operation and performances and to share the experience of those, who participated in the first experiments, with other scientists potentially interested in applying these sources for their own research.

The conference web page with more information and registration can be found at http://www.xfel-school.com. The deadline for paying the reduced conferences fees is extended up to September 15th!!

The final program is available here. Up to now the following speakers have already confirmed their participation:

  • Jean-Yves Bigot (IPCMS, Strasbourg)
  • Eric Collet (Université de Rennes)
  • Andrea di Cocco (IMPMC, Paris)
  • Arnaud Devos (ISEN, Lille)
  • Marta Fajardo (IST Lisbonne)
  • Jerome Gaudin (European XFEL)
  • David Le Bolloc'h (LPS, Orsay)
  • Marino Marsi (LPS, Orsay)
  • Jean-Michel Mesdagh (LFP, Gif sur Yvette)
  • Catalin Miron (Synchrotron SOLEIL)
  • Brian Mitchell (Université de Rennes)
  • Sylvain Ravy (Synchrotron SOLEIL)
  • Frank Rosmej (LULI, Palaiseau)
  • Marc Simon (LCPMR, Paris)
  • Pierre Thibault (Université Technique de Munich)
  • Olivier Thomas (IM2NP, Marseille)
  • Thomas Tschentscher (European XFEL)

Announcement

Edited: 2010/05/10

Dear Colleagues,

this is the first announcement for the research school on "Science with XUV- and X-ray Free Electron Lasers", which will be held on October 18 - 21, 2010, in the Club Belambra at the Presqu'Ile de Giens, Hyères, located in the South of France close to Toulon.

The user community of XUV and X-ray free-electron lasers is experiencing a major turning point with the recent opening of the first world-wide X-ray (0.8 - 8 keV) free electron laser LCLS in USA, after 5 and 2 years of operation of the XUV (30 – 300 eV) free electron lasers FLASH in Germany and SCSS in Japan, respectively.

The motivation for this workshop is therefore to provide general information about X-ray Science enabled by such sources, detailed about sources operation and performances and to share the experience of those, who participated in the first experiments, with other scientists potentially interested in applying these sources for their own research.

The meeting is sponsored by the CNRS as a research school oriented primarily towards scientists from French laboratories, but participation of researchers from outside of France is warmly welcomed. The targeted audience reaches from experienced scientists to interested PhD students, already familiar with x-ray science. Depending on the composition of the audience, the meeting will be held in French or in English.

We look forward to seeing you in October.

Jan Luning, Michael Meyer, Philippe Zeitoun
